    Craghoppers! Product demonstration videos with Bear Grylls


    Vivid captured a Bear in a Product Video.
    Vivid were approached by Craghoppers, who are a world renowned outdoor clothing manufacturer and like Vivid are based in Manchester. They manufacture an exclusive range of clothes for Bear Grylls, the UK’s real life 'James Bond'. Bear is very passionate about survival, and particularly his clothing line from a visual and practical perspective. They both wanted a collection of product videos that would showcase the range and add interest and value to the brand, whilst at the same time showcasing the many features of the clothing.

    Solution

    Vivid worked closely with the Marketing Team from Craghoppers prior to the shoot, so the look and feel of the product demonstrations would suit the brand.

    We were obviously excited about working closely with Bear Grylls, as he’s somewhat of a hero within the office. Knowing Bear was on a very tight schedule on the day of the filming, we had a quick brief with Bear and then set up the scene, lighting and cameras whilst he conducted other business.

    The location for the shoot was to be Bear’s equipment room, and as he was due to travel the following day to film his TV show, we had to work around all the laid out survival gear. We didn’t want to rearrange the layout as we wouldn’t want to be blamed if Bear couldn’t find his Kendal Mint Cake.

    Multiple cameras and minimal takes

    With Bear being on a tight schedule, as soon as he was ready to shoot we were ready to roll. We’d set up a 3 camera set-up which we knew would allow for fewer takes, and as Bear is clearly comfortable in front of the camera this turned out to be true. Each of the 4 products were shot with minimal takes. Camera 1 was used to capture the whole scene, camera 2 was used for a side profile of Bear to cut away from Camera 1 and Camera 3 was the most important camera, as it allowed a closer look at the individual features of the item of clothing

    Adapting to last minute change

    After a very successful and enjoyable day filming for Craghoppers, and especially working with Bear Grylls, we then had a very tight deadline to edit and output the finished videos.

    The initial ‘mood’ brief for the look and feel of the edits was changed during the editing stage. A completely different feel to the videos was required, this meant a quick reshuffle to the edit plans. To add to the new feel of the films we used additional footage to cut into the videos, as well as grading the films in a way that emphasised the feel and vibe of both the Craghoppers and Bear Grylls brand.
